With a lick of paint or some stylish wallpaper, you could really give your dining room a makeover this year. If you feel you’ve neglected your dining room and you want to transform it into a space that can be enjoyed by all the family, now’s as good a time as any to do something about it.

Consider the Prime Function of Your Dining Area

The first thing you need to decide on is what kind of feel you want the dining room in your home to have. If you plan to use it mainly for family meals, you don’t need it to be particularly opulent and instead, you probably want it to be bright and homely.

However, if you often entertain guests and that’s what the space will mainly be used for, it makes sense to make sure it exudes glamour and grandeur, with a stylish dining table being the central feature.

If you do plan to use your dining room for entertaining, you have a couple of options that you might want to consider. You could either go for a contemporary and chic design — using just black and white around the space — or you could go for something more traditional and opulent.

Paint and Wallpaper are Key for Setting a Room’s Mood

The paint or wallpaper you choose to decorate with will have the biggest bearing on the ambience you want to create in the room. If you want your dining room to be fun and inviting, why not use some bright colors such as corals and yellows around the space?

For a more traditional design, you can apply dark red paint to the walls, using gold to highlight key features around the space and add some intricate patterns.

Choose Your Furniture Carefully

Every room needs furniture; there’s no escaping that fact. A dining table is, of course, the central piece. When making your choice, one of the things you should consider is size. Large families and dinner party aficionados will need a larger table.

If that doesn’t describe you, there’s no point in taking up additional space. On the other hand, purchasing a table with a removable extension is a very reasonable compromise. Just be sure to buy enough chairs.

Other pieces to consider are sideboards, china cabinets, and buffets. Any of these pieces not only complement the room; they are also highly functional. They provide storage for your best plates, cups, napkins, silverware, and more.

Try to find dining room furniture which complements the room’s color hues, opting to add a splash of color to every part of the room.

Whether you’re making your dining room more family friendly or you’re trying to make it appeal to the masses, a lick of paint can be a great way of giving it a makeover.
